Portman: Raising Taxes on Job Creators Will Further Harm Weakest Recovery Since Great Depression

Statement

U.S. Senator Rob Portman (R-Ohio) today released the following statement on President Barack Obama's call for increased taxes on America's small businesses:

"Last week's troubling jobs report is further proof that our economy is stalling and needs a boost. This is not the time to raise taxes. Additional burdens on families, small businesses and job creators will only make our economy worse. Comprehensive tax reform is what we need to give our economy a shot in the arm and give small businesses the certainty and predictability they need to hire workers. Until the President is ready to show leadership on tax reform, he ought to at the very least avoid raising taxes, which will make it harder to create jobs. Small business owners cannot afford to lose more workers, and families cannot afford more job losses and a continued weak economy."
