Gov. Rick Perry today issued the following statement on the vote by a U.S. House-Senate Congressional conference committee to restore Texans' right to deduct sales taxes from their federal income tax returns.
"Today's action by the congressional conference committee moves Texans one step closer to tax fairness and equity," Perry said. "Since 1986, Texas taxpayers have been punished because of their fiscal responsibility and lack of a state income tax. Once the U.S. House and Senate give final approval, Texas taxpayers will no longer be unduly burdened. I applaud the hard work of the Texas delegation in securing this victory for Texans."
