Gov. Rick Perry today issued the following statement following the announcement that Gary Johnson, executive director of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, will retire at the end of the year.
"Gary Johnson has been an outstanding public servant for the people of Texas over the past quarter century. He has tackled some of the toughest challenges in state government, gained the respect and admiration of his peers, and made the people of Texas safer in their homes, schools and places of business. All Texans owe Gary Johnson a debt of gratitude."
