Gov. Rick Perry today issued the following statement on the decision by the U.S. Congress to extend the federal transportation funding bill known as TEA-21.
"In a recent letter to the Texas Congressional delegation, I urged our members in Congress to work diligently to ensure that Texas receives its fair share of federal gas taxes that Texas drivers pay. Led by Majority Leader Tom DeLay, Congress today authorized an eight-month extension of TEA-21 that increased Texas' share of gas taxes by more than $300 million from the previous level. This is a victory for every Texas driver and will allow the Texas Department of Transportation to build more roads in the coming year. Throughout the upcoming transportation reauthorization deliberations, I look forward to continuing to work with the Congressional delegation to bring more federal highway dollars home to Texas."
