Congressman Steve Pearce released the following statement after a bipartisan House majority voted to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress for not turning over subpoenaed documents related to Operation Fast and Furious:
"I would rather have the truth and the documents than have had this vote. It should not have come to this. The Attorney General is not above the law, which the House made clear with today's vote. It is a sad day for America but I hope this action begins to lead to some answers for Brian Terry's family."
Today, the House of Representatives voted 255-67 to hold U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress for his failure to produce subpoenaed documents related to Operation Fast and Furious. Operation Fast and Furious was a program implemented by the Obama Administration in which the Department of Justice allowed weapons, including AK-47 variants, to "walk" into Mexico without being traced. Some of the weapons are now in the hands of drug cartels, and were used to kill hundreds of innocent Mexican citizens and US Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry.
