Jones Votes to Hold Attorney General Holder in Contempt

Today the U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution holding Attorney General Eric Holder in criminal contempt of Congress. Congressman Walter B. Jones (NC-3) voted for H. Res. 711, which passed by a vote of 255-67, with one voting "present" and 108 Democrats not voting. The contempt vote was held after the Attorney General spent the last 9 months refusing to comply with a congressional subpoena to turn over pertinent documents related to the infamous "Fast and Furious' federal gun operation. "Fast and Furious' resulted in over 2,000 firearms ending up in the hands of Mexican drug cartels, many of which were used in subsequent crimes including the murder of U.S. Border Patrol agent Brian Terry.

"This is about accountability and transparency," said Jones. "Attorney General Holder had many chances to comply with lawfully issued subpoenas, and he refused to do so. If Mr. Holder and the Obama Administration have nothing to hide, they should just provide the documents. The American people and the family of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry deserve to know the truth, however inconvenient it might be for this Administration."
