Statement from U.S. Senators John McCain and Russ Feingold and Representatives Christopher Shays and Marty Meehan
On Today's Court Decision on the Bipartisan Campaign Finance Reform Act

Upon initial analysis, while we are pleased with the District Court's split decision upholding important provisions of the campaign finance reform law, unfortunately, it also could create serious loopholes that undermine its effectiveness. We are confident that the Supreme Court will uphold the provisions of this law as it was originally enacted.

The Supreme Court's recent decisions in the Shrink vs. Missouri and Colorado II cases indicate that the Court is sensitive to the real world effects of large contributions on our political system.

Our great Constitution ensures Congress is not powerless. The public is not doomed to a corrupt campaign finance system.
