In 2011, the Michigan Business Tax was eliminated. I was happy to see this job-killing tax eliminated, however I opposed the tax on pension income. I felt that tax unfairly targeted some of Michigan's most vulnerable residents, and especially for those on fixed incomes. After hearing from many residents from letters, emails, phone calls, and office hours, it was a change I could not support.
I believe that you know how to spend your hard earned dollars much better than the government, and will work hard to reduce your tax burden, including speeding up the rollback of Michigan's income tax rate.
In 2011 and 2012, Michigan's government successfully balanced our budget, and well before the deadline of October 1st. In fact, we've accomplished something that hasn't been done in many years -- the budget was completed by June 1st! Just as families across Michigan need to balance their budgets, Michigan's legislature has done so.
I've also sponsored legislation (HJR G) that would require budgets to be completed by July 1st -- or your elected officials forfeit their salary.
