Niagara County Legislature Chairman William Ross and Erie County Legislature Minority Leader Jack Mills today endorsed Chris Collins for Congress. Collins is running for the newly drawn 27th Congressional District seat, which includes the majority of Erie and Niagara counties. In addition, Collins named Mills as his Erie County Campaign Chairman, while Ross will serve in the same capacity in Niagara County.
"Bill and Jack are respected, trusted leaders in their respective counties," said Collins. "I am so proud that both have agreed to not only endorse my candidacy, but serve as Campaign Chairman in their home counties. In my time as county executive, I worked closely with Jack to bring commonsense, financial reform to Erie County and I got to know Bill well as Erie and Niagara counties partnered on many key economic initiatives. The help and support of Jack and Bill will be critical to our success in the primary and general elections. Both men know Washington is broken and that our nation's future depends on whether we get serious about fixing it."
"As the leader of the Niagara County Legislature, I know making the tough decisions isn't easy," said Bill Ross. "As Erie County Executive, Chris kept his word to taxpayers and reduced the county debt by $120 million and cut the size of county government by more than 20%. Chris put Erie County back on the road of fiscal stability and there is no doubt in my mind that he will bring those same conservative principles to Washington as our Congressman."
"As a local business owner who started from the ground up like Chris, I know the value of hard work" said Jack Mills. "So does Chris. I also know how hard it can be to build a growing and competitive business with the endless layers of state and federal regulations. So does Chris, but over the years, he has created or saved 500 jobs and even closed a factory in Mexico to bring the jobs back to our community. We need someone in Congress with Chris' experience fighting for taxpayers and small business owners."
In addition to the majority of Erie and Niagara counties, the 27th Congressional District also includes Genesee, Livingston, Orleans and Wyoming counties, as well as sections of Monroe and Ontario counties. Collins will be naming campaign chairman in those areas shortly.
