You might have heard that Wisconsin fell out of the top ten highest taxed states in America. This is not as great as it sounds, our taxes actually went up, but not as high as some others, Wisconsin taxes are still too high! Reducing our tax burden is a top priority. I will work to eliminate job and innovation killing taxes such as the newly enacted combined reporting tax and the tax increase on capital gains.
The new combined reporting tax, which I strongly opposed, has been linked to thousands of jobs being cut and sent to other states. Large employers like Harley Davidson, Briggs and Stratton, Gardner Denver, and others have been hit hard by this new tax. Not only are these large employers impacted by this tax, but all the small employers that supply these companies with products.
I support reducing property taxes by adequately funding our schools. In the last biennial budget which I opposed, aid to schools was cut at the same time overall state spending increased by 6.2 percent. Cutting aid to local governments and schools increases the burden on property owners to pick up the tab for local services.
I support reducing capital gains taxes on companies that use this money to invest in job creation and economic expansion in Wisconsin. This money is best left in the hands of employers and their employees than in the hands of Madison bureaucrats.
I pledge to those that I represent that I will always keep your interests above those of high taxing, high spending special interest groups.
