Stephen Labate Points out the Hypocrisy of Congressman Israel

Press Release

Date: May 11, 2012

In a recent campaign mailer, Congressman Steve Israel claimed that Republicans have "been accumulating war chests full of special interest money". When asked for a comment, Stephen Labate said, "This is just the latest example of where Steve Israel's rhetoric doesn't match his actions, or the actions of his boss, President Obama, who just attended a $40,000 a plate fundraiser at the home of George Clooney for Hollywood's elite".

Labate, the Republican, who this November will challenge Israel, a six-term incumbent, pointed to the Federal Election Commission (FEC) filings submitted by Steve Israel saying, "Congressman Israel's assertions are hypocritical given the fact that 99% of his donations come from Political Action Committees (PAC) and large contributors. Steve Israel is on television constantly saying we need to get money out of politics, yet his campaign is exclusively financed by big money".

Labate added, "Congressman Israel, as head of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC), has supported the anti-business Occupy Wall Street movement while, simultaneously, taking vast sums of money from the likes of Goldman Sachs and Bank of America. These are clear examples of where Congressman Israel again says one thing on Long Island but does the total opposite when in Washington".

"Furthermore, Congressman Israel likes to portray himself as the champion of the middle class but, as a member of Congress, what has he really done? After 12 years in office Steve Israel has sponsored 144 bills, of which 142 haven't made it out of committee and only 2 were successfully enacted into law, both Post Office name changes. That is a 1.3% success rate, if you can even call that success".

Labate went on to say, "Voters are tired of the same old rhetoric coming from Obama's top Lieutenant, Steve Israel, who finances his campaign exclusively with money from the same people he demagogues." It's time to send a representative to Washington who will work for all of the constituents in the 3rd Congressional District, one who will seek to unite, not divide with false and inflammatory rhetoric.
