Expensive health care continues to cause anxiety for families. To make health care more affordable, we need families, not government and politicians, to be in control of their health care decisions and dollars. Families need choices with open disclosure of cost and quality information, so we can see the doctors we choose.
This is why I do not support government-controlled, politician-run healthcare proposals. It is a $569 billion tax increase that will result in cuts to Medicare, increase the federal deficit by hundreds of billions of dollars, and increase premiums by more than 10%.
We are fortunate to live in a state with excellent, accessible health care. Wisconsin has the second lowest rate of uninsured in the nation, we guarantee access for all children, and we have some of the best doctors in the country right here in Wisconsin.
I witnessed our excellent health care system when I broke my leg last January after slipping on ice on my farm. From the greeting I received at the emergency room door, to the x-rays, to the surgery I received that very same day, everything was seamless. I was the 9th person to have surgery that day for an ice injury, and I was home resting comfortably the next day, and I was back to work three days later.
However, the costs of health care are a real problem. As your representative, I have, and will continue to focus on innovative Wisconsin-based solutions that will reduce costs.
