Today, Congressman Eric Cantor (VA-07) released the following statement in honor of Independence Day:
"It was 236 years ago, when 56 men -- among them 7 Virginians -- pledged their lives, their fortunes and their sacred Honor to establish our great nation. America has offered freedom and opportunity for millions and stands as a beacon of liberty for the rest of the world. Since our founding, each generation has called upon young men and women to step forward and defend these same principles. Today, we honor our Founders and those brave men and women who have followed. Their sacrifice and bravery are a source of pride for all Americans, and we must never forget our commitment to those who return home and the many who never will.
"From our earliest days, the Fourth has been a celebration centered around the communities that have been the foundation of this country. This Independence Day, as we spend time with family and friends, remember to check on your neighbors and stay safe if you are still without power. Diana and I wish everyone a happy and healthy Fourth of July."
