Hawaii's Legislature is not friendly to small business. Last year they raised taxes that hurt small contractors, some landlords (and their tenants), and businesses that rely on imported materials for their products.
They also made it more expensive for you to fix your home.
The current Senator for Kailua, Hawaii Kai and Waimanalo voted for this law.
The tax increase is supposed to expire next year, but small businesses are nervous that the State will change its mind and keep the tax in place.
I've run my own small business, managed a small private company, and am now starting a small commercial orchard. I come from a family of small-business owners. I know how hard it is to run a small business year in and out, and how they are hit hard by changes in taxes and government regulations.
If elected, I will strongly oppose any effort to retain the tax increase on small businesses next year. I will also oppose any other tax that unfairly impacts small businesses
