Catholic Hospitals Shouldn't Have to Violate Moral Conscience Over Obamacare HHS Mandates

Press Release

Date: June 22, 2012
Location: Indianapolis, IN

Indiana State Treasurer and U.S. Senate Candidate Richard Mourdock expressed support for Catholic Health Association's recent rejection of ObamaCare's HHS Dept. mandates, which requires them to provide healthcare benefits they morally oppose. Last Month, Notre Dame and 42 other religious organizations filed suit over this issue. Congressman Joe Donnelly -- a Notre Dame graduate -- continues to be an avid supporter of ObamaCare.

"I commend the Catholic Health Association for rejecting ObamaCare's HHS mandates that they oppose because of their religious beliefs and affiliation," stated Treasurer Mourdock. "These requirements are a violation of religious liberties guaranteed by the First Amendment."

In May, Richard Mourdock sided with the 43 Catholic organizations -- including the University of Notre Dame and the University of Saint Francis -- that filed suit over ObamaCare's HHS mandates requiring them to provide abortion-inducing drugs, contraceptives and sterilization to their employees.

Congressman Donnelly recently reconfirmed his support for ObamaCare and told the South Bend Tribune, simply that he would continue "to monitor" the situation as the process or lawsuit moved forward.
