Sen. Franken to Press Obama Administration to Move Quickly When Dayton Makes Disaster Request

U.S. Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) said today that he will push President Obama and other federal disaster officials to move as quickly as possible when Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton issues his request for a federal disaster declaration for northeast Minnesota counties hard-hit by recent flooding. Sen. Franken, who last week toured flood damage in Duluth, Proctor, and Carlton, will visit Duluth and several other communities in Carlton and Pine counties Saturday.

"I'm glad to see that the governor and state emergency response staff have worked quickly to file a request for a federal disaster declaration," said Sen. Franken. "I'll be contacting FEMA to encourage them to expedite their decision. The impact of the storm was significant, and the region needs federal support as soon as possible."
