Levin, Stabenow Announce Federal Grants for Gerald R. Ford International Airport and Kalamazoo-Battle Creek International Airport

Press Release

Location: Washington, DC

Gerald R. Ford International Airport in Grand Rapids will receive a $4.9 million federal grant to help pay for safety and operational upgrades, and Kalamazoo-Battle Creek International Airport will receive a $1.1 million federal grant to help pay for new snow-removal equipment, navigation and lighting improvements and other upgrades, Michigan Sens. Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow announced Monday.

"Airports are a vital link to an increasingly global economy, and we have to make the right investments to maintain that important link," Levin said. "Today's grant announcement is good news for travelers, business and workers in Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, Battle Creek and surrounding communities."

"Making air travel more efficient will provide a boost to the region's economy and will support our local businesses," Stabenow said. "These improvements will help our airports keep our families and visitors safe and reduce flight delays."

The Federal Aviation Administration grant will help pay for a new lighting control panel to replace aging current equipment; replacement of snow-removal equipment and an aging navigational beacon; installation of runway guard lights to improve safety during operations at night or in low-visibility conditions; and rehabilitation of runway pavement.
