U.S. Rep. Pete Visclosky, D-Ind., on Wednesday joined U.S. Rep. Robert Aderholt, R-Ala., in advancing a Buy American Amendment to the fiscal year 2013 Interior Appropriations Act.
The amendment requires every project receiving funding through the Environmental Protection Agency's State Revolving Funds for Clean Water and Drinking Water must use iron and steel products produced in the U.S., according to a news release.
"This is a common--sense provision that will stimulate American manufacturing," Visclosky in a statement. "We must ensure that American taxpayer dollars are spent to create jobs in America. I am pleased that the Committee included this investment in both our water infrastructure and in American iron and steel."
The amendment was approved by voice vote Wednesday during the House Appropriations Committee markup of the Interior Appropriations Act.
