Congressman Peter Roskam (IL-06) issued the following statement today on the bipartisan passage of a 27-month transportation package:
"I am very pleased this highway bill has finally crossed the finish line. Today, we passed legislation that will support important local transportation projects and will provide certainty so businesses and local governments can invest in their communities. It also includes vital reforms that cut through red tape and allow for investments in infrastructure that are both efficient, and cost-effective. Additionally, we were able to come to an agreement that prevents student loan rates from doubling.
"I applaud everyone who pressed forward to reach this bipartisan agreement when some were saying it couldn't be done. The hard work paid off--this bill is good for the country and good for Chicagoland."
