Congressman Marsha Blackburn (TN-7) today issued the following statement on House passage of The Domestic Energy and Jobs Act.
"This legislation will help create the jobs that are needed in our nation's energy sector. The Domestic Energy and Jobs Act will help create the environment for jobs growth to take place. It will empower American innovators to harness our domestic energy capabilities.
"We want to see more American-made energy, more American exploration, and more American-made jobs. We want to see American innovation and end our dependence on foreign oil. This legislation takes the steps necessary to get our economy moving in the right direction.
"President Obama's policies are failing. Unemployment has been above 8% for 40 straight months now -- the longest streak since the Great Depression. Underemployment is at 14.8%. These numbers should serve as a wake-up call to the President and the Senate that they can no longer sit on their hands and play the blame game at a time when 13 million Americans remain out of work.
"While Democrats and the President are preoccupied with telling Americans what they won't do on energy, House Republicans have laid out a plan for what we can do. The American people want action. It's time for the Federal government to get out of the way and return our focus to creating the environment for energy exploration and jobs growth to take place in this great nation. That is exactly what this bill does."
