Rep. Noem Votes to Reauthorize Funding for Transportation Projects, Keep Student Loan Interest Rates Low

The U.S. House of Representatives voted today to pass a bipartisan Surface Transportation Conference Report. By a vote of 373-52, the House voted to reauthorize funding for transportation projects nationwide for over two years. This bill also extends the current interest rates for student loans for one year, and the federal flood insurance program.

"This transportation bill is a win for responsible government and a win for South Dakota. It gives South Dakota contractors, engineers, construction workers and their families certainty, and reforms the regulatory process to get projects in the pipeline faster. This bill is by no means perfect, but it is a bipartisan agreement that embodies the type of reforms I came to Washington to implement. I am frustrated by the exclusion of the Keystone XL pipeline and will continue to fight to get it authorized, but this bill does not increase spending, contains zero earmarks and provides certainty for our job creators and students. I commend my colleagues in the House for coming together to agree on a bill that is good for America and good for South Dakota."

The Senate is expected to vote later today.
