Supreme Court Fails to Overturn Obamacare: Carter Demands Repeal and Replacement by Congress

Press Release

The House must now immediately move to repeal Obamacare and defund attempts to implement any portion of the controversial healthcare plan to disrupt the nation's healthcare delivery system, based on today's U.S. Supreme Court decision not to rule the law unconstitutional.

"We have two grave issues now at stake -- our healthcare system and our individual freedoms," said Carter. "This decision means that in the court's opinion, there are no longer any limits on what individual actions the government can force us to undertake. And while we are losing those freedoms, 80 million Americans will also lose their health insurance coverage, and 800,000 Americans will lose their jobs, all while healthcare prices skyrocket, which is exactly what this horrible law was meant to accomplish to force Americans into socialized medicine."

Carter said the House must move as rapidly as possible to repeal and defund the law, and to replace it with commonsense health care reforms that increase coverage and lower costs.

Carter favors increased federal funding of state high-risk pools to guarantee affordable coverage to those with pre-existing health conditions; interstate health insurance to allow families to buy plans online at lower cost than available in their state; allowing children to remain on family policies up to age 26; medical malpractice reforms to eliminate costly frivolous lawsuits and defensive medicine; changing the tax code to allow individuals the same tax deductions as employers when purchasing health insurance; and allowing individuals and small employers to create associations to buy insurance at the same cheaper group rates as large employers.
