Today, U.S. Senate candidate Shelley Berkley released the following statement celebrating the 68th anniversary of the GI Bill:
"The GI Bill, which was signed into law by President Franklin D. Roosevelt 68 years ago today, remains one of our nation's finest moments. As the proud daughter of a World War II veteran who managed to put two daughters through school on a waiter's salary, I know the important role an affordable education plays in building a middle-class life.
"Unfortunately, far too many of our young heroes are coming back from overseas to face unemployment and a lack of opportunities here at home. This is unacceptable, and it is why I've always been a strong supporter of legislation providing for our veterans and their families. As I mark today's anniversary, I vow to continue fighting to make sure every veteran has the opportunity to provide for their family and live the American dream."
