While working in the Emory University System of Healthcare, I served as a liaison between patients, physicians and insurance companies. I am a strong advocate for access to quality and affordable healthcare for all Georgians. I spoke from the Well on the second anniversary of the Affordable Care Act, outlining how Georgians have benefitted from this historical piece of legislation that was passed by the US Congress.
I am an integral part of the fight to maintain and expand comprehensive healthcare standards for women in Georgia. We have 39 counties in Georgia that do not have OB/GYN physicians. We must make women's health and healthcare in general, a priority throughout the entire state. This includes providing a climate that makes Georgia attractive to Primary Care physicians as well.
I voted to help pass legislation that allows for insurers to offer child-only healthcare policies for those 19 and younger, without a pre-existing clause. This opens up the opportunity for children to be covered when a creditable coverage is not available.
