I believe the family is the strength of any great society. Over the last century, we have seen the slow erosion of this foundational principle through government intrusion into our lives. As we have given up personal responsibility and embraced government dependence, we have destroyed the American family in the process. I believe the government should encourage the family structure, not support dysfunction. When half of our nation's children are born out of wedlock, our future is bleak. We must reestablish the family as the cornerstone of our society.
Tracey and I will always treasure the births of our three children. Like all parents, we saw in each of those special moments an intensely personal reminder that life itself really is an amazing gift from God.
Every baby conceived deserves a birthday. Sadly, though, more than 3,000 unborn babies are aborted every day in America. They will never have a birthday.
I am proud to be Pro Life. And this is far more than a political statement on the official checklist of conservative positions. It is who I am in my heart and soul -- called to be an advocate for, and a strong defender of, defenseless, vulnerable unborn babies.
