Georgia should never forfeit our sovereignty to a foreign entity, especially when it comes to placing tolls on our roads. Why would we endorse a plan that would take money out of our community and place it into the hands of companies that will never spend that money in our state? Nothing can be a greater example of why we need to keep this authority than the HOT Lanes in Gwinnett, where pricing decisions had to be authorized outside of Georgia. That is completely unacceptable. We can do better. And whatever plans are devised at the regional level should avoid toll lanes. We can accomplish this by making sure the taxes we pay for transportation related improvements are actually spent on those improvements.
