Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack (CA-45) released the following statement today after President Obama decided to circumvent Congress and announced that his administration would stop deporting some illegal immigrants who came to America as children:
"This is a band-aid approach to immigration reform. I continue to firmly believe that we need to strengthen our borders, approve robust e-verify legislation and reform the current guest worker program. While this offers some hope to kids unfairly caught in the middle of this debate, the President really needs to roll up his sleeves and work with Congress on a responsible and balanced long-term answer to immigration, rather than try to cobble together a solution through administrative actions. We need to have a healthy debate on immigration among the American people in order to become a stronger, more unified nation."
