Congresswoman Shelley Berkley today released the following statement on Nevada receiving more than $23.9 million in funding under the 2012 Payments in Lieu of Taxes (PILT) program that will be distributed in the Silver State. Payments under PILT help to compensate counties and local governments in Nevada and nationwide for the loss of revenues as a result of non-taxable federal land located in various states. More information on the PILT program can be found at http://www.doi.gov/pilt
"This $23.9 million comes at a time when counties and cities in our State are struggling to find funding to cover vital needs and to serve the families and businesses who call Nevada's communities home. I am proud of my long record of support for PILT funding to aid Nevada which has a higher percentage of land under federal control than any other State. These payments help local governments offset the loss of revenues from federal lands and facilities that are in their jurisdictions and I am pleased that this year's funding for Nevada is part of the largest PILT distribution in the history of the program."
