Congressman Mike Thompson (CA-1) today released the following statement on the Obama Administration's decision to stop deporting and begin providing work permits to young immigrants who were brought to the U.S. as children through no choice of their own, and have since led law-abiding lives, and do not present a risk to national security or public safety:
"Starting immediately, people who were brought to the U.S. as young immigrant children through no choice of their own, and who don't present a risk to national security or public safety, will no longer be subject to deportation, and will be able to pursue educational and employment opportunities in the United States.
"The people we're talking about are young, productive, law-abiding individuals. They go to school with our kids, work in our communities, and some even serve in our military. They are our friends and neighbors. They want to go to college and contribute to our country, and today's decision will give them the opportunity to do so."
