Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) issued the following statement following House passage of the Strategic Energy Production Act (HR 4480). This domestic energy production bill seeks to reduce gas and energy bills of American families and help spur much needed economic recovery and job creation. The legislation increases energy production from on-shore oil, natural gas, and renewable resources while reducing red tape and streamlines regulations.

Said Ros-Lehtinen, "Energy and gas prices continue to squeeze family budgets, making it hard for our economy to recover. Addressing the energy challenge facing our country must begin with increased energy independence. Every 50 cent increase in the price of gas costs the economy $70 billion a year, whereas American energy means creating American jobs.

This straightforward bill will help us harness American resources in an environmentally safe way and enhance our national security by steering us away from unstable and more expensive imported fuel."
