Government has obligation to provide open and honest answers to its citizens. That's why I have always pushed for more transparency in state government. I sponsored legislation to prohibit legislators and state officials from leaving office and immediately becoming lobbyists and to require personal financial disclosure by candidates and elected officials.
Citizens deserve elected representatives who are working for them - not for special interests.
As Vice-Chair of the Oversight, Ethics and Investigations Committee in the House, I have fought to increase the transparency of the Detroit pension boards, sponsoring legislation requiring these boards to open their records to the public.
