Issue Position

Communities achieve economic and environmental sustainability as home, civic, and cultural life prospers. If it takes a village to raise a child, it takes that same village to nurture an adolescent, support the parents, grandparents, and -- increasingly -- lend a helping hand to the great-grandparents. Support services can make the difference between a family that thrives and contributes to the community and a family immobilized by financial and emotional overload. I will fight to return our communities to the safe and vibrant communities that once existed by:

- Working with local officials to establish after school recreation centers for our youth that will provide tutoring, positive character building, and extra curriculum activities in a safe environment
- Cultivating a community wide commitment to youth development
- Working with local neighborhood block clubs and local authorities to establish crime prevention programs
- Working with lawmakers to restore funding for vital human services
