I have devoted much of my professional career and public service activities to fighting discrimination in all of its pernicious forms. As past President of the Women's Political Caucus, at both the St. Louis and State levels, I have spent many years fighting for women's rights. This year in the Missouri legislature, I have been one of the leading voices advocating against the government, insurance companies or employers being allowed to limit a woman's access to birth control. I also played an active role in the legislature in fighting against efforts to weaken the anti-discrimination provisions which long have been part of the Missouri Human Rights Act. And, I long have advocated for protecting the rights of the LGBT community, including adding sexual orientation and gender identity as protected classes under the Missouri Human Rights Act.
