House Republican Policy Committee Chairman Tom Price, M.D. (R-GA) issued the following statement after President Obama's decision to prohibit the enforcement of certain U.S. immigration laws by the Department of Homeland Security.
"President Obama's subversion of constitutional lawmaking procedures is entirely unacceptable. This administration has yet again demonstrated that it will rule by executive fiat instead of working with Congress. There are ways to solve these challenges without encouraging illegal immigration," said Chairman Price. "Last week, the U.S. House of Representatives unanimously approved a provision that would forbid taxpayer dollars from being used to "circumvent or fail to enforce immigration laws.' And yet, this is what the president is choosing to do. The role of the executive branch and the president is to enforce the laws of the land. President Obama must stop picking and choosing which laws he will enforce."
Last week, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 5855, which funds America's Department of Homeland Security. It contains an amendment by Chairman Price that would ensure no funding under the bill could be used by the president to circumvent existing immigration laws.
