Gov. Rick Perry released the following statement regarding the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' announcement that it has chosen Texas A&M University as the location of one of three centers for Innovation in Advanced Development and Manufacturing:
"This national center will play a key role in securing our country from bio-terrorism and global pandemic through the rapid development and manufacturing of vaccines and therapies to protect human life. Further, today's announcement is proof that the steps we have taken over the last decade to expand our biotechnology sector in Texas have moved our state to the forefront of transformational medical and engineering breakthroughs. This collaboration will leverage our strong biotechnology industry and existing infrastructure and talent to develop, test and manufacture vaccines to protect public health during emergencies. By attracting world class researchers, high-paying jobs and billions of dollars in outside investment to our state, this center will elevate our strong and growing biotechnology industry into a worldwide leadership role."
