Statement from Gov. Nikki Haley on the Department of Administration

Statement

Date: June 13, 2012
Location: Columbia, SC

Governor Nikki Haley this morning released the following statement:

"I would like to thank Senator Larry Martin and the members of the H.3066 Conference Committee for gathering in Columbia this morning to continue their work on the Department of Administration bill. I am encouraged by the progress they have made in their earlier meetings and hope that they will continue working this week until they produce a final conference report.

"South Carolina needs a more efficient and effective government - one that's run like a business. No CEO lacks control over personnel, facilities, technology, or other backoffice functions, and South Carolina's governor shouldn't either.

"If the General Assembly does not adopt the Department of Administration conference report by the end of next week, we will have wasted so much of the taxpayers' time and money these last two years - something that's not acceptable to them, just like it should not be acceptable to any public servant.

"It's time to finish the conference report and give South Carolinians the government they deserve."
