Transportation is a key support system for our state economy. Washington State roads and bridges must be properly maintained in order to safely and efficiently transport goods and services in and out of North Central Washington. Brad believes that the state should focus transportation dollars on reducing traffic congestion. Every effort should be made to realize savings in portions of the state's transportation budget, such as use of private ferry contracting, in order to free up more dollars to help relieve traffic congestion. Washington State transportation improvements rely heavily on the per-gallon application of the gas tax and consumption has declined in recent years due to more fuel efficient vehicles and the economic recession. It is likely that gas tax revenues will continue to decline as more electric vehicles are manufactured. This is one of the reasons why focusing on funding basic services, including transportation, before other governmental programs is so important.
