Yesterday, for a second year in a row, Rep. Andy Harris passed an amendment in the House to stop shipping hard-earned American taxpayer dollars to China and India to make their cities more energy efficient. Rep. Harris' amendment to H.R. 5325 -- FY 2013 Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, would prohibit the use of funds for many of the international projects in the office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE), including the President's plan to spend up to $750,000 on "Sustainable Cities" projects in China and India.
"Unfortunately, President Obama is choosing to spend hard-earned taxpayer dollars in China and India on foreign "Sustainable Cities" projects, even as we borrow money from China to pay our national debt," said Rep. Andy Harris. "We should not be making the massive national debt we pass along to our children and grandchildren even larger to increase Chinese efficiency. I do not believe these projects pass the test of making good use of hard-earned taxpayer dollars."
