Congressman Kenny Marchant (TX-24) issued the following statement regarding the Department of Homeland Security's announcement that it would be offering de facto amnesty to younger illegal immigrants:
"The decision by President Obama to circumvent Congress and the legislative process to implement amnesty by administrative fiat is appalling. Rather than work with Congress to pass common-sense border security enhancement and immigration reform, the President has reverted to political pandering to pacify his base. This decision is short-sighted, reckless, and unnecessarily confrontational. Furthermore, this decision will likely have significant repercussions for Americans and legal immigrants looking for work, as this order makes approximately 800,000 illegal immigrants eligible to apply for work authorization.
"Defending our nation's homeland is of the upmost importance and it ought not to be tainted by administrative decrees that make a mockery of the rule of law. I will work with my House colleagues to fully investigate the President's decision and get answers regarding the national security implications as well as the massive fraud this action will invite into our immigration system."
