Congressman Francisco "Quico" Canseco (TX-23), whose district includes the San Antonio Missions National Park, issued the following statement after the House Natural Resources Committee approved Congressman Canseco's bill, the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park Boundary Expansion Act (H.R. 3100):
"The San Antonio Missions National Historical Park is one of our nation's historic treasures. The missions are just as important to understanding the story and history of America as other historic places like Jamestown, Independence Hall, or Mount Vernon. Adjusting the boundary of the San Antonio Missions National Park is absolutely critical to protecting these treasures, and allowing the park to continue thriving and further enhance visitors' experience. It is also a critical part of the redevelopment taking place on the South Side of San Antonio. This boundary adjustment will help reconnect the missions to the San Antonio River, where the Mission Reach Project is taking place to extend to the South Side the economic prosperity and job opportunities enjoyed in other parts of San Antonio."
"I'm very pleased the House Natural Resources Committee has approved my legislation to expand the boundary of the San Antonio Missions National Park, and will continue working to bring this important legislation up for a vote in the House of Representatives," said Congressman Canseco.
