Amid notification from U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Secretary Eric Shinseki that the sole source procurement strategy would not be used for the Lafayette and Lake Charles Community-Based Outpatient Clinics, Congressman Jeff Landry (R, LA-03) requested specifics on the VA's commitment to completing the veterans health clinics in an accelerated manner.
In a letter to Secretary Shinseki today, Congressman Landry -- a veteran of Desert Storm who has 4 veterans on his staff -- asked for detailed steps the VA is taking to expedite the process on the Southwest Louisiana clinics and information on the VA's consideration of using existing facilities in Lake Charles and Lafayette to serve the needs of Louisiana's heroes.
"As I have said from the beginning, the VA's proposed timeline is wholly unacceptable. The veterans of our community are best served by receiving their clinics as soon as possible. We must ensure that this happens. We have a responsibility to our brave men and women who sacrificed much," said Congressman Landry.
