Iowa Congressman Tom Latham received an award last week recognizing his support for a federal initiative dedicated to finding job training and work opportunities for disabled Americans.
In a ceremony in his Washington office last Thursday, Congressman Latham accepted the AbilityOne Congressional Champion award in recognition of his effort to promote the program, which is a federal initiative to improve the quality of life for blind and disabled Americans by helping them acquire job skills, receive wages and benefits and gain greater independence.
Congressman Latham recently visited with employees working at the VA Central Iowa Health Care System in Des Moines who were employed through AbilityOne and Goodwill Industries of Central Iowa, which has been a strong local partner of the AbilityOne Program.
"AbilityOne is a fantastic program that helps Americans with disabilities live their lives to the fullest," Congressman Latham said. "I'm proud that Goodwill Industries of Central Iowa has worked so closely with AbilityOne to provide high-quality skills and work experience for blind and disabled Americans and to help them participate in their communities in meaningful ways."
