Democrat Heidi Heitkamp makes a stop in Fargo to talk about why she believes Congressman Rick Berg is not for the people.
"I think there truly is a difference in what will happen if you elect Rick Berg and what will happen if you elect Heidi Heitkamp, " said Heitkamp.
Heitkamp told a crowd at the Train Depot Senior Center that Berg should not have voted for Wisconsin Republican Paul Ryan's Budget bill.
The measure, which has been approved by the house, cuts federal spending by $5.2 trillion dollars over 10 years.
"That's the Ryan budget. Who's winning and who's losing? We're taking away from students and giving away to some of the wealthiest. We're taking away from seniors and we're investing instead in multinational companies who shape jobs overseas, " she said.
Heitkamp says the losers in the budget bill are farmers, students and seniors, but the winners are millionaires, like Rick Berg.
"Those making 1-million or more would get a quarter of a million tax reduction, that is on top of the Bush Tax Cut."
But, Congressman Rick Berg says the Ryan bill is a step in the right direction to bring spending under control.
"The budget that we passed brings us back to regular order. The senate should pass a budget as well, they haven't done that for three years, " said Berg.
The federal deficit will soon reach 16 trillion dollars.
Berg believes getting the budget under control helps people of all incomes.
"What's the alternative? We have to reduce the regulations that are choking small business and farmers. We have to change the way things are happening in Washington."
The Ryan budget may be a major issue in the senate campaign that will ultimately be decided by North Dakotans in November.
