Former Governor and U.S. Senate candidate Tim Kaine released the following statement after the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) voted to remove a Project Labor Agreement (PLA) preference from Phase II of the Rail to Dulles project negotiations:
"The MWAA Board has acted today to keep Rail to Dulles on track. It is unfortunate that some used the prospect of union workers as a reason to threaten defunding the project. Phase I of the project has been built in part by union workers in a safe, timely and cost-effective way. But, the most important issue is getting the project done.
When I became Governor, this project was a regional dream. But, after years of talk, nothing was happening. I resolved to get it built. I'm proud to drive by the construction today and think of the commuters and businesses who will benefit for generations. I will continue to battle any obstacles to make sure this project is completed. I urge all Virginia political and business leaders to pull together and show that we can make this happen."
