Issue Position: Improving Health Care

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2012

Jon knows first hand how the cost of health care and insurance affects hardworking families across Montana. For a time, he and his family had to go without health insurance because of its high price tag, just like too many other Montana farmers, ranchers, and small business owners have had to do.

For decades, America's health insurance system was broken. As costs spiraled out of control, folks were denied coverage because of preexisting medical conditions or dropped by their insurers when they got sick.

That's why Jon supported the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, which is now holding insurance companies accountable and strengthening health care for all Montanans.

Jon understands the unique challenges rural and frontier communities face when it comes to medical care, which is why he strongly supports the role of Montana's critical access hospitals, and why he has secured investments in new and expanded medical facilities for veterans.

And Jon supports better recruitment of needed medical specialists in areas like Libby, where Public Health Emergencies mean that residents are especially in need of care.
