"Since I first swore a solemn oath of office, I've fought and will continue to fight against illegal immigration. Unchecked immigration leads to a danger of terrorism, crime, and a financial strain on middle-class taxpayers. We are a nation of laws, and when immigration laws are ignored or abused it can threaten our fiscal solvency." -- Lois

*In 2007, Lois famously passed HB 1196, one of the only immigration reform bills to pass the Texas Legislature in recent years that dealt with this critical issue. The law requires that any employer receiving a public subsidy must return the money to taxpayers if they are found guilty of hiring illegal immigrants. The law received statewide attention and the endorsement of the Texas Conservative Coalition.

*Lois helped secure an additional $100 million for more border security. As a budget writer, she deals firsthand with the enormous strains that an open border policy has on our public schools, welfare system and hospitals. She's willing to fight the forces who push for an open-border policy that burdens taxpayers and lowers our standard of living.

*To protect Texas and American sovereignty, she's supported legislation to require that voters show identification, to make sure only US citizens can vote in our elections. She also passed legislation to require the Texas Attorney General to investigate whether international agreements like NAFTA are undermining Texas laws. Unfortunately, this bill was vetoed in 2007.

*Over the past several years, she's worked with the County and District Clerks Association to author and pass new laws to shut down dangerous marriage license scams being run by crime gangs to smuggle illegal immigrants into Texas.
