Coats: President Obama's Comments on Economy Ignore Reality

Location: Washington, DC

Senator Dan Coats (R-Ind.), a member of the Joint Economic Committee, today issued the following statement regarding President Obama's remarks this morning that "the private sector is doing fine."

"It is disturbing, frankly, that after 40 consecutive months of national unemployment over eight percent, President Obama somehow believes that "the private sector is doing fine.' I think the millions of unemployed and underemployed Americans that wake up every day without a job would disagree with the president's comments.

"President Obama's remarks today completely ignore our economic realities. When I meet with Hoosier business owners and job seekers, I hear a common concern that Washington is creating many of the obstacles to economic growth, rather than providing solutions that support innovation and entrepreneurship. The private sector needs more certainty, not more government."
