Congressman Bob Gibbs Votes to Save Appalachian Regional Commission

Congressman Bob Gibbs released the following statement following his vote against a failed amendment in the FY 2013 Energy and Water Appropriations bill (H.R. 5325) that would have eliminate funding for the Appalachian Regional Commission in 2013:

"I do not support the proposed elimination of the Appalachian Regional Commission. The ARC is critical to our region - a region that was hit disproportionally hard by the recession and is traditionally underfunded. While I support making cuts in government spending and have even cut my own budget, abolishing the ARC is unacceptable.

"At a time when job creation is our number one priority, Ohio's Local Development Districts were able to administer 51 ARC projects that resulted in 1,052 new jobs and another 2,295 jobs being retained in the region. I have been and continue to be committed to fighting for this important organization and ensure that it will not be eliminated so it can continue to foster job creation, build a stronger economy and ensure a better quality of life for the residents of Appalachian Ohio."
