Representative Ann Marie Buerkle (NY-25) released the following statement regarding the passage of H.R. 436, the Health Care Cost Reduction Act, which repeals a tax on medical devices instituted by the President's health care law.
"The medical device tax is another example of how the president's health care law is raising costs and hurting small businesses. Repealing the tax is essential as it would mean the loss of tens of thousands of jobs and it would increase costs of consumers and health care providers as prices for medical devices will rise.
"Repealing this bill is crucial for saving American jobs, investing in American manufacturing, and preventing financial burden on small businesses and healthcare providers. But most importantly, it is about saving lives. This ill-considered tax must be repealed so we can keep our medical device companies, like Welch Allyn in my district, alive and prosperous.
"I applaud the House for passing this important legislation and urge the Senate to do the same."
H.R. 436 passed the House by a vote of 270-146 and now moves to the Senate for further action.
