House Approves Fiscal Year 2013 Energy and Water Appropriations Bill

Press Release

Date: June 6, 2012
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Energy

The House today approved the fiscal year 2013 Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies Appropriations bill on a vote of 255-165. The legislation provides the annual funding for the various agencies and programs under the Department of Energy (DoE) and other related agencies, and totals $32.1 billion -- a cut of $965 million below the President's budget request.

"The bill approved today gives priority to programs that boost our national defense, support competitiveness and innovation, reduce the volatility of gasoline prices, and help America achieve greater energy independence. And, while providing this important funding, the bill also makes responsible spending reductions to ensure future economic security as the nation copes with the dangers of unresolved debts and sky-rocketing deficits," House Appropriations Chairman Hal Rogers said.

Energy and Water Subcommittee Chairman Rodney Frelinghuysen also commented on the bill:

"This is a fiscally conservative bill which funds critical national security, jobs, and infrastructure priorities while helping to fight future gasoline price increases. All of our constituents are wrestling with how to pay for higher gasoline bills on limited budgets. There is no such thing as a quick fix to this problem, but the bill does strengthen the Department of Energy's programs, addressing the causes and impacts of higher gasoline prices down the road," Frelinghuysen said.
